What Causes Sudden Knee Buckling?

I stood up out front on the porch watching the traffic for a minute and all the sudden my knees buckled and I went down on the ground and I was trying to get myself up with my arm and I had control of it and then my jaw hit the concrete. I do need to have my right partially replaced but that wasn’t what caused the fall I didn’t even feel my knee.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Any disease, injury(miniscus tears), arthritis, nerve damage(femoral nerve), MS(Multiple sclerosis) or PS(Plica syndrome) can cause instability of the knee & cause buckling. Knee buckling may be a minor problem but if you neglect it can cause serious problems later in life. Visit ER, get examined, if there is some minor problem no worries but get all investigations done if needed. Your treatment will depend upon your diagnosis. You may have to see a physiotherapist for knee strengthening exercises.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
