What Causes Sudden Lack Of Sensation In The Legs?

My sister-in-law , age 77 , in the last year or so , will have times when her legs ,immediately, loose all feeling and strength and without warning will cause her to collapse. This total lack of feeling will last a few minutes then she is able to pull herself up . Any suggestions ? Thanks , Clea Shaffer , email is , YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

Sudden loss of powers in all limbs which last few minutes may be a type of epilepsy what we call atonic seizures. In this type the muscles go flaccid for a while.

Another possibility is anxiety disorders called conversion disorder. So it should be properly evaluated by history and EEG. A neurologist would be best to evaluate her.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
