General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Encephalopathy is a general term that describes disease that affects the brain and many types do exist some of which may cause memory and speech impairment. Given her age, other probable causes of her problem could be a frontotemporal dementia given that the two symptoms(speech and memory) are controlled by these lobe of the brain or a stroke. No matter the cause however, i will advise you see a Neurologist for examination and work-ups.A brain CT scan or MRI will be very helpful here.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
