What Causes Sudden Lower Back Pain After Standing For Long Time?
I stood at my job for 5 hours straight and came home and all of a sudden got a shocking like pain from my lower back on the right side. It shocked up my back to the point of feeling like I couldn t breath. It went away after motrin and lying down in a fetal position for a couple of hours. Any idea as to what that was. and why did it only last a couple hours?
Sudden lower back pain after standing for a long time is commonly due to overuse or exhaustion causing strain or muscle spasms. It may also be due to injury to the muscles or ligaments supporting the back. Medical conditions that may be responsible for such symptoms and discomfort are slipped disc, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, sciatica, etc.
You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP/Orthopedics, get all blood tests, investigations and imaging tests done. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime you can take NSAIDS, one sos when needed after food to ease pain. Heat therapy and physical exercises under a therapist may help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
