My co-worker was taken into the hospital this morning. Her husband attempted to wake her up, she was unresponsive. She is a young woman in her mid-thirties, has three children ages 20, 13 and 1 1/2 years. She was perfectly fine yesterday, has no medical conditions, is perfectly healthy. What could cause a perfectly young woman to not all of a sudden wake up?
Hello ! Thank you for the question on HCM! I would say that the inability to wake somebody up, with all the stimuli we can would be the definition of COMA. So I think your friend has fallen into coma. There are different causes of Coma like : metabolic changes, stroke, tumors, a cardiac arrest, etc. The main cause of acute coma after sleeping would be a possible brain stroke thrombotic or hemorrhage, during the night. So I would recommend a full blood work, a cardiac evaluation and a brain CT scan or brain MRI to find out the possible stroke area. Hope to have been helpful! Greetings! Dr. Abaz Quka
