What Causes Sudden Numbness In Leg Below The Knee Of An Elderly Person?
my husband-very active 73 yr-old - walks, cycles, etc., in very good shape - was walking across room when one of his legs from knee down suddenly went totally numb & he couldn t feel his foot. It only lasted moments then was okay. Any ideas? He had no other symptoms.
Numbness can be related to abnormal electrolytes or due to abnormal structure or function of the nerves in that area (peripheral neuropathy) or decreased blood supply.
The abnormal electrolytes would be most common unless there is a history of risk factors that could result in nerve disease (diabetes, vitamin deficiency, liver or kidney disease)
If it recurs then his doctor can determine the likely cause and treat appropriately.
I hope this helps
