Hi,
First of all, let me thank you for your trust in us.
numbness of arm and fingers can be due to the following conditions :
1) carpal tunnel syndrome
2)
peripheral neuropathy due to diabetes, chronic
smoking etc 3)
cervical spondylosis leading to nerve entrapment.
Coming to numbness of lips, as you are complaining of a unilateral problem, just check if other parts of face are involved. Peripheral neuropathy is unlikely to cause numbness of lips. The following are some causes:
1)
facial nerve palsy
2) any minor trauma to highly sensitive lips
3) chapped or cracked lips. Also, we need to think of Raynaud’s phenomenon.
As you had the attacks only twice, you need not jump into a major diagnosis.to my patients, I usually advise the following:
1) smoking and alcohol are to be avoided
2) proper protection is to be taken from exposure to the
cold environment
3)
diabetes mellitus, if any, must be under control
4) cracked lips are to be taken care of.
So, what I intend to say is just wait and watch.if the symptoms won’t come down or get worse, then you can meet a neurophysician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
