What Causes Sudden Onset Of Involuntary Contractions In The Neck?
My husband is 38 and three times in the last 24 hours has experienced the same symptoms. He will be perfectly fine, talking, walking, etc. and all the sudden start convulsing in his neck and arms. He remains somewhat consious but his speech is very slow and needs to be reminded to breathe. The first one happened during the night and lasted about 10 minutes and he had about 10 minutes of confusion after. The second happened during the day while he was walking and collapsed and lasted about an hour with about 30 minutes of confusion after. During the second incident he was taken by ambulance to the er. All of his vital signs were normal and blood sugar was 157. The third incident happened while at the er connected to monitors and no vitals changed during the incident. I called the nurse in and she didn t seem concerned. He had weakness on both sides of his body with the left side being worse. After a few hours he is able to move his right side but not a lot of strength. He can move his left leg a little but not his arm at all. Both CT scan and MRI came back negative for stroke, but the hospital is treating it as a stroke. He has a history of cerebral palsy and has occasionally had small convulsions before. Does this sound more like a seizure than a stroke?

What Causes Sudden Onset Of Involuntary Contractions In The Neck?
Hello, It might be a neuromuscular problem. As a first line management, you can take drugs like baclofen for symptomatic relief. If symptoms persist better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
