What Causes Sudden Onset Of Tiredness/exhaustion In 60 Year Old?
My partner is 60yrs old, normally physically active all day. Recently had blood tests to assess cardiac symptoms all of which were normal. He is complaining of episodes of sudden onset of tiredness/exhaustion and has to go to bed. This is most unlike him. What should we do?
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Tiredness or exhaustion in the elderly is commonly due to cardiac cause, anemia or hypothyroidism 2. As cardiac cause is ruled out, anemia and hypothyroidism requires investigation. 3. Additionally good hydration, regular sleep, moderate exercises along with good nutrition is essential. Possible reduced absorption of food could be one of the causes. He needs to take multiple meals, preferably 5-6 per day along with plenty of water. 4. Sleep should be regular and atleast 8-9 hours in night. Afternoon sleep should be limited to half an hour. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
