What Causes Sudden Pain In Knee When Diagnosed With OA?

Q: I am an 80 year old women, in good health, who was diagnosed with Osteo arthritis 40 years ago. With exercise I managed very well until two years ago. At that time both knees started hurting. My left knee being the worst was replaced and I was told that my right knee was bone on bone and should be done soon. I was doing well until pain started 5 weeks ago. I m not excited about having surgery again but don t want to wait until I m older. I m anxiously awaiting your opinion . Thanking you for your suggestions . Sandra

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Considering your symptoms it seems your knee is badly hurting. It is always good to have pain free and a good quality of life. You have correctly surmised that it is better to get operated early on before age brings in other comorbidities. Get well soon.
