My 6 year old said the inside of his right knee hurt last night, there was no sign of bruising or swelling so I assumed possible growing pains, however he woke up at 4 am crying in pain when he tried to straighten the knee. There is still no sign of injury, I put an ice bag on it and gave him childrens tylenol. What could the problem be?

Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like brusitis , ligament tear , minucus rupture , tendinitis or sciatica . I would suggest you to apply warm compresses , take proper rest , do light stretching exercises . If condition doesn't get well then consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI along with nerve conduction test . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , anti inflammatory along with nerve supplement . Doctor may also recommend physical therapy or particular exercises . Doctor may also recommend strenghthning exercises .
