What Causes Sudden Pain In The Big Toe Of The Left Foot?

I have a sudden pain in my big toe in my left foot that seemed to occur over the weekend wearing some old tennis shoes. Never had a problem before, but the big toe is sensitive and in pain. If could limp to favor it, but I also could run on it if needed. I suspect it s nothing but bad shoes, but do I have something worse, such as gout?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Little soreness in the big toe may be caused by tight shoes or any physical stress.

However, if the toe is swollen, red, warn and painful gout needs to be considered and I recommend to be tested for it.

There is no harm in testing fro it. Gout is not a something worse, its quite manageable disease. Though it may not be but possible and assessment is necessary for any acute hot painful joint.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
