What Causes Sudden Pain In The Joints And Stiffness In The Neck?

I am a 59- year old male and I have had sudden onset of joint pain including stiff neck, along with general fatigue (almost flu-like symptoms). This began several weeks ago. I am an avid cyclist and runner. Also, I had a spot on the back of my neck about 2-3 months ago where the pigment was faded and the skin was itchy and scaly. I noticed this patch of skin about the time I traveled to Hawaii. Could I be experiencing some sort of delayed effect from an insect bite?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It could be an insect bite, you should have taken antihistamines or some other anti-allergic tablets. It seems infection has spread in the lymph nodes and that may be the cause of neck stiffness. Go to ER get examined. You need antibiotics. You can take Amoxicillin, Antihistamines, and Paracetamol for relieve, take medicines after go get examined. Locally you can apply Calamine lotion or Betnesol ointment for relieve. For joint pain you should get CBC done, get urine test done to rule out developing gout or arthritis. Eat healthy & maintain weight.
