What Causes Sudden Pain In The Legs?

can you directed me as to what I need to do with the recent (today) onset of a shooting pain down one leg from the thigh to the ankle and back when attempting to walk. I am a cardiac patient with COPD and some peripheral vascular disease in the lower legs. Is this something I should go to the ER for or call the MD tomorrow if not resoloved

Hi
Thanks for trusting healthcaremagic for your health issues.

As you mentioned about peripheral vascular disease (PVD), which can cause pain radiating in affected vessel.
Second possible reason for this type of radiating pain can be Nerve compression at spinal level.
You should first consult physician who is treating PVD. If it is ruled out then consult orthopedic for second reason.

I hope this will help you.

Regards
Dr. Hiren
