What Causes Sudden Painful Muscle Spasms Below The Armpit And Lower Hips?

Hi! What is the cause of sudden painful muscle spasms on my sides, from below my armpit/ side of breast and then lower to the hips. Not on my back, occasionally in the front of my abdomin. I take potassium and drink at least 60 oz of water a day. These spasms come out of nowhere, seize up in so much pain i almost scream, and only subside after extensive stretching. Thanks! Sorry, I though ght this was a free service, thanks anyway

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The painful muscle spasm on front of the abdomen could be due to some inflammation in intestine. The antispasmodic drug can be prescribed for that. If pain occurs in particular movement or movement aggravate pain than it could be musculoskeletal pain for which muscle relaxant can be prescribed. If no improvement than ultrasound can be planned.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
