What Causes Sudden Persistent Nausea?

I started feeling what seemed like random, mild to moderate nausea about 4-5 days ago. Three days ago, the nausea became so bad I had to leave work. I took a pregnancy test that stated I was not pregnant but my last menstrual cycle ended only about 2 weeks ago so I don t know if a home pregnancy test would be accurate yet. I am only nauseous when I stand up and walk around. If I sit and/or lay down I feel nearly normal until I engage in activity again. Is this just a stomach bug? If so is it normal or okay that I m still experiencing it 48 hours after it got bad? Or is there something greater going on?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

* As per my clinical experience, the current episode sounds to be acute gastritis issue which may be secondary to certain food intake or minor stomach bug.

* My guidelines for better recovery

- drink more liquids in sessions
- consume a small amount of frequent meals at intervals
- avoid spices, non-veg, junk foods, dairy fat if consuming
- intake of proton pump inhibitor as omeprazole or pantoprazole with sips of water on empty stomach
- remain ambulatory till possible

* Follow up after 2 days or early as per the need.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
