What Causes Sudden Popping Feeling In Sternum Followed By Intermittent Pain?
I was working out yesterday and was on my second set of push press when it felt like my sternum popped I immediately put the bar down and started moving my arms and neck to see if everything was alright, it feels like I have a larger space where my clavicles met my sternum or around that area right where your esophagus runs down into your chest.. Anyway it hurts pretty bad sometimes what is wrong?
I am very concerned that you might have a sternoclavicular injury (dislocation / subluxation). this means that you might have injured the joint between your collarbone (clavicle) and sternum on either side or both sides. I strongly urge you to see a doctor and get an X Ray (not always visible on X-ray) done and maybe CT to confirm this. A more affordable method would be to ask the radiographer to perform a serendipity view (40 degree cephalon tilt) for better visualization using X-ray. For temporary relief, please ice the area every 2 hours. do NOT attempt to lift any weights or exercise till you have been checked. thank you and take care
