What Causes Sudden Rapid Heart Rates, Dizziness And Feeling Of Fainting?

My husband experiences sudden rapid heart rates, dizziness, and feeling faint with no warning and no pattern. It can sometimes occur after eating or exertion but there is no pattern to it. When the episode is over he feels very sleepy and washed out. It can over half an hour or longer for his heart rate to slow down to normal. What can be causing this? It happens very infrequently.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your husbands symptoms may need medical support. You are suggested to get your husband clinically examined by a Cardiologist. Get EKG, Echo, stress tests, CBC, Lipid function tests, X-ray, etc done to detect any developing coronary artery disease. His treatment (via medicine or surgery) will depend on the severity of the symptoms & reports obtained. In the meantime help him cut on addictions if any. Give him home made food cooked in olive oil. Avoid packaged, frozen oily junk food.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
