What Causes Sudden Rise In Blood Sugar Level? Suggest Remedies

Dear Dr. I am 67 yrs old male suffering from type II for few years. Now I am on amaryl 1 M ( metformin 500mg) once daily before major meal for few months. I do regular walking at morning for about an hour covering about 3.5 KM and I took controlled dieting but some time it breaks due to festive months. Initially the medicine was acting very nicely all levels including Hba1c were normal. This time I have not checked levels for about five months due to preoccupation in my professional life. As I am feeling well for about ten days feeling drowsy on my working place throughout the days I have gone for testing of blood sugar fasting and it came 173 mg which has never occured during my 7 to 8 yrs of treatment. To day I can not concentrate on my work in my office.
Would you advise me what to do at this stage?
Regards

Diabetologist 's  Response
hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

The sugar level you have mentioned are higher than normal. But you have mentioned only one sugar level. That could some times happen based on food taken that day or physical activity.
If such thing happens more than a couple of times, when the levels become uncontrolled persistently, Check HbA1c gives sugar level for the last 3 months. If that is high with the present drug, either the dose is increased or a new drug is added to the present drug after discussing with treating doctor.
For now don't worry much.

Hope this guides you. For any other queries you can write to us. we will be happy to help you. Thank you.
