What Causes Sudden Sharp Left-sided Pain In Upper Abdomen Below The Ribs?

Last night, I suddenly felt several very sharp, stabbing pains in my upper left side approximately an inch below my ribs and two inches from the side. I broke into an instant sweat and felt nauseated for a few seconds. The area is very sore today, but no more severe pain. I have no insurance so I would prefer not to make an unnecessary trip to a doctor. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to HCM....

Three possibility mainly here has to be ruled out ....
1.Muscular pain secondary to trauma
2.Stomach infection like simple gastritis
3.Kidney stone

Here if history of trauma present than pain could be musculoskeletal ...
For which ibuprofen tablet taken for five days ...
Take rest ...
Avoid strenous work...
Proper sleep posture taken ...

USG has to be done ...
It will reveal stone if present ...
For gastritis or acidity , omeprazole capsule on empty stomach can be taken ...

Take care

Advise : Consult physician or nearby doctor for examination....
