What Causes Sudden Sharp Pain Below Ears And Tenderness In Neck?

I had a sudden sharp pain in just below my ears when I was laying down. It spread immediately to my upper neck. The pain subsided slowly after I sat up--like a painful spasm. Now my top front of my neck still is tender and hurts when I tilt my head back (chin up.) What is this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
It seems that due to lying down position on same side for long time might have caused some neck muscle strain giving rise this pain.
This happens when some hard thing remain stuck at on point while lying down position.
Apply analgesic, muscle relaxant cream on the site.
Avoid neck movement on affected side for some time.
Ok and take care.
