What Causes Sudden Shortness Of Breath When Suffering From Anxiety?

my son is 19 years of age, he is average weight for height and never suffered any health problems other than anxiety/ no depression with that. Yesterday he was sitting beside me in the car, returning home after seeing a movie,and he started to gasp for breath, then hypeventilate, then he passed out and came out of it quickly afterwards. He looked pale during this time and said he was cold. My son normally complains of the heat and it was not a cold day.

I went through your details. I suggest you not to worry much. The incident looks vague to me, sincerely. Shortness of breath is part of anxiety and panic attack. But not in this manner. Shortness of breath is supposed to be accompanied by panic attack, palpitation and sweating. In this case, you did not mention any event which may trigger the anxiety? Please consult a physician for further evaluation.
