Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sudden Swelling And Pain Under Right Side Of Jaw?
64 white female, sudden on set of swelling on right side of below the jaw line from ear lobe to mouth. No fever, hurts when pushed or bend my head over. Have not been bitten, no bruiseing. No rotten teeth, just swelling and obvious to the sight. Am scheduled for a mylogram on Monday for diagnosis of syrinx/chiari malformation.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms sudden swelling under the jaw line can be due to swollen submandibular Salivary Gland which is located in this position and sudden swelling commonly occurs due to obstruction in the duct or opening of submandibular Salivary Gland which can be due to either any foreign body blocking the orifice of the duct while formation of Salivary stones or Sialoliths can obstruct the duct of Salivary Gland which can lead to pooling of saliva in the gland itself as it cannot flow in mouth..
It does not seems to me to be due to Chiarl Malformation and is more commonly due to Salivary Gland clogging..
Nothing to worry consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and if there is obstruction of the duct either manual or surgical removal of the stones depending upon location has to be done..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
