Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 41. His leg swells all the way down to and including his foot. It is hard as a rock, I just found out. His doctor has never seen him like this, only some swelling. What is wrong and what should he do on a Saturday night?Thank you in advance.
If he has swelling of one leg only then DVT would need to be ruled out. This refers to a clot in the deep veins of the leg. Trauma or the presence of varicose veins are other causes of one sided swelling.
If the swelling involves both legs then possible causes include heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, side effect of medication, trauma to both legs.
He should consider going to an emergency center if the swelling is significant.
I hope this helps
