Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sudden Swelling In The Tongue After Eating?
My tongue is swollen. Should I be concerned? It became inflamed after I had pizza for lunch (just the tip). That was about 14 hours ago. I just got up to use the bathroom and I checked in the mirror because it was still sore and noticed how thick it is.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it is appearing to be like allergic reaction to any unknown allergen present in your food leading to angioedema or swelling and soreness that us due to inflammation of tongue..
So my suggestion is not to delay and consult an Emergency room as excess swelling of tongue can cause choking..
You can be given oral anti allergics like benadryl and a steroid shot if allergic reaction is diagnosed..
However as of now also you can take a dose of anti allergics like benadryl or levocetrizine to relieve the symptoms and suck ice to reduce soreness..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
