Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My sister blacked out for 3 days. ( not a drinking problem ) She left work on a Sun. because she felt unwell , went home to bed . She remembers waking with a sore throat so left her house to get a milkshake . She lost her sense of direction on the way home, it was dark .She fell and remembered nothing until she heard a knock on her door Tues after noon. Her eye glasses were missing and she had scrapes & bruises on her face. Her purse was there but not the milk shake . She does not know how she got home nor which day she went out for the milk shake. My sister is very frightened. She did not seek medical help. What happened to her ?
Hi, some sequences missing in the way she fell unconscious hints that she probably had some seizures. Bruises over face supports it. After awakening following a seizure episode, people are confused but are well able to judge distances, drive car and arrive home. But their post ictal state do not retain any memories of it (Anterograde amnesia). A simple syncopial attack (Blackout) would have retained the scene of how she arrived home. This is a possible theory, but may be otherwise also. she requires a neurologist consultation just to make sure she did not have seizures, as they can repeat if untreated. All the best.
