What Causes Sudden Uncontrollable Shaking In An Elderly Person?

I noticed yesterday that my mom s friend, who is 78 I think, couldn t grip a popsicle stick without it shaking. She also was hanry several times during the day. I asked if she was diabetic and she said she is pre-diabetic. I also know she takes blood pressure medication. Should I let her son know about the shaking, or is it trivial do ya think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Shakiness in the elderly may be an indication of many conditions that may need treatment and also may increase the risk of falls and serious trauma.
I would say that it is important to let her son know so she may have a proper check and assistance. On the other hand, you will need to discuss this with the friend (the patient) if she agrees that you share this information with her son. This will help her be more cooperative and will make the treatment more effective.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
