I am an American citizen who recently returned from a one week stay in El Salvador. I have traveled in many developing countries and am vigilant to practice good hygiene and only drink bottled water, no ice, no uncooked vegetables, etc. This time, however, we had dinner in a nice restaurant on my final evening and my waiter poured my bottled water over ice cubes. In addition, my entree had peeled tomatoes and some greens, which I ate. That was on Thursday, May 12. On Saturday morning, May 14, I vomited once and had chills and fever which lasted about 12 hours. That did not happen again. On Sunday, I had a bit of diarrhea which has not persisted. What has persisted is a bloated feeling in my gut. If I eat anything more than a bite of food, I feel as if I might explode. Should I see a doctor?
