What Causes Sudden Weakness In Arms And Shaky Hands?

I m 51 y/o. yesterday I went outside to trim a few shrubs in front of my house. took all of 10 minutes with little exertion. I came back into house for dinner. suddenly both arms felt very weak and were shaking badly when I attempted to drink some water. the symptoms remain today but are not as dramatic. I m a cyclist, in fairly decent shape, no high blood pressure, no other signs of stroke. any ideas of what this could be? Scott

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sudden weakness in the arms and shaky hands may be indicative of electrolyte imbalance of the body. Low blood pressure, low glucose level and depletion in sodium & potassium can cause such symptoms. You are suggested to take food in time and stay well hydrated. Take some snacks and beverage from time to time. Take juice, soups and keep yourself warm. Take adequate rest between work.

Developing neurological problems can cause such symptoms. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a neurologist and get blood tests, NCV tests, Imaging (CT/MRI) tests done to detect any nerve problem. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, you are suggested to take food rich in vitamin B1, B6, B12, Vitamin E and minerals. You can take supplements also.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
