Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having weakness to the right leg that came on suddenly but it s not consistent. I have stage IV breast cancer mets to bones only. MRI yesterday of spine showed mets in basically all discs but not pressing on nerves, worst was small lesion that caused fx to C-7. I have no upper body weakness. MRI on brain done yesterday pending results. I was on Xeloda 500 mg x2 in morning and x3 pills at night w/ last one taken on 4/16. Xeloda started Aug.2016 I read Xeloda side effects but only on drugs.com and Mayoclinic.com did I find it caused weakness on one right arm or leg. Has anyone heard of this side effect of Xeloda? forgot to mention I have moderate neuropathy to upper and lower extremities. Have been on Neurontin x 4 years 400 mg BID.
Causes of your difficulties may be neuropathy or ischemic issues. Neuropathic are seen in diabetics or injury of spine nerves.
If this is not your case then these symptoms are indicating circulatory problems in legs which are common in this age and there may be present atherosclerosis that obstructs blood vessels and causes pain and blisters to form.
You should do Doppler ultrasound of the leg or CT angiography to rule out such obstructive changes and then it can be treated properly by medications or by surgical and radiological procedures.
Also, you should have Aspirin and have elastic stockings applied, and should avoid cold environment and long walks.
In most cases, it can be managed with medications but sometimes surgery may be required in severe cases.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
