Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sunburn Like Mark And Blisters On Chest And Fingers?
Last week I got a sunburn (Mainly my chest and tops of my arms) in the morning; by that evening I had one burn like mark between my thumb and pointer finger. (as if burnt on a hot surface). The following morning blisters appeared in that burn and another similar mark had shown up on my pointer and middle knuckles. They burned and itched for about a week and then began to peel, revealing another set of blisters underneath the original ones. They are now pink and brown in colour and the second set of blisters are now little skin bumps. I have no idea what they could be.
Based on your history, the likely diagnosis is sun allergy causing polymorphic light eruptions. As the name suggests, allergic reactions after sun exposure may differ from person to person as rashes to blisters.
These eruptions occur typically in the sun exposed areas such as chest, arms or face.Itching can also occur.Antihistamines and mild steroids can be used to reduce the symptoms.
Regular application of generous sunscreen half an hour before stepping out is recommended.Sunscreen should also be reapplied every three hours to be effective.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
