What Causes Sunburn On The Hands And Feet After Taking Doxycycline Hyclate?

I m currently finishing a round of doxycycline hyclate 100 mg and my hands and feet are quite sunburned after being outside for a couple of hours. This is unusual for me. My hands and feet are the only extremities affected. I read that this is a serious side effect. Please advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The sunburn is the well-known phototoxicity of the side effect profile of the doxycycline. The same has to be reported to your consultant and be aware of second-time intake and exposing to the sun.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
