What Causes Sweet Smelling Breath?

My husband has been having sweet smelling breathe, kind of fruity. He has not had anything to eat or drink except water when this happens. He is a diabetic controlled with oral meds. He is having some unusual behavior around the time this happens too.

In diabetes, Keto acidosis condition (DKA) a sweet and fruity odor in breath is present. Check blood sugar and test Ketone in the urine.
