What Causes Swelling And Bleeding In Lip Post Dental Procedure?

I had d dental procedure 10 hours ago to take an impression for a crown after my old one broke down.
immediately after, the lower one side lip is severely swollen, mild bleeding initialy which stopped and it s completely numb. called my dentist and they reply it was normal
I have had many dental procedures in my life time but never before experienced anything like that. Numbness and swelling is not in the gum but in the adjacent lip area. 10 hours later no change, lip is 3 times bigger, swollen and not looking well

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain swelling of lip along with bleeding and numbness is not a commonly seen finding after impression making for a denture and if it has happened to you that too causing 3 times swelling of the lip, it seems to be due to allergic reaction..

Allergic reaction can occur to the dental material that is used for impression making and although it is not a very frequent finding but can occur in a very few cases..

Nothing to worry as the swelling will resolve gradually..
I would suggest you to take anti allergics like Levocetrizine or Benadryl..
You can do cool compresses over the lip..
Avoid pressing or sucking the lip..
You can take a look inside the mouth and check for any remaining piece of the impression material inside mouth and clean it off properly..
In case if still there is not resolution consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a clinical examination and blood test can be diagnostic and you can be advised injectable steroids to get relieved soon..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
