What Causes Swelling And Bloating In The Stomach?

My boyfriend is experiencing bloating;. After he has a bowl of ice cream at night his stomach swells up. It gets hard and uncomfortable for him to touch. Only at night does this happen. And I can see. His stomach really gets big and hurts him. This has been going on every night for the past three months. I want him to see a Dr. He has Hep C also. Please help....He has acute arthritis, Degererative bone disease, needs a Rotator Cup Replacement, and his hips hurt; everyday thing, etc. What can I do to help him???? . Kim

Hi welcome to the health care magic

Here might have functional bowel problem or chronic constipation problem..
Bacterial overgrowth might leads such problem
For these psyllium in milk like laxatives and Rifagut like tablet might prescribed

For degenerative bone disease check calcium level and if low than cholecalciferol sachet with milk one of week might prescribed

As having hepatitis c infection examination of abdomen needed to look for ascites
If fluid accumulation there in abdomen (USG also useful) than diuretic needed

If Spleen palpable than for portal hypertension beta blocker prescribed

Take care

Consult physician for examination and specific treatment plan prescribed accordingly
