What Causes Swelling And Bruising At The Sides Of Body?

My daughter was riding her scooter at a very fast speed, hit a bump, and flew over her scooter onto the sidewalk on her side. Her side is swelling and bruising. It is very tender in a large area around it and hard to the touch. Should I take her in to get looked at?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that due to fall she has got a severe soft tissue injury and there seems to be broken or ruptured blood vessels under the skin leading to severe bruising and inflammation leading to pain and swelling..
You should consult a Physician and get her evaluated and should also get an
x ray done to rule out for fractures..
In case if it is soft tissue injury and no fracture then he can advise you to do cool compresses over the area..
Apply analgesic gel to reduce pain..
Apply Heparin gel to reduce bruising..
Take Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation and pain..
He can also advise injectable steroids and anti-inflammatory medicine like diclofenac to reduce swelling and pain..
In case of fracture reduction and fixation will be done..
