What Causes Swelling And Bruising In The Legs After A Fall?
My mom has swelling and bruising in her legs. she recently fell and had 3 pelvic fractures. after a month in hospital and rehab - she came home and started hurting on opposite side and her doctor took and x-ray and said she it was her sacroiliac joint and now she is having swelling in her ankles/legs and bruising. She is 83 and also has COPD.
Thanks for writing to Health Care magic, I am Dr , Muhammad Ahmad , I have read your question closely, I understand your concern and will be helping you with your health related problem.
This type of swelling is very common in immobilized old patients who have week veins and don't walk much,. Here is what you do,
1) Try to keep her legs elevated. 2) Get her heart checked up get echo done. 3) Control her salt intake. 4) If she is taking ACE inhibitor or calcium channel blocker report this to your doctor. 5) Do not let her feet hanging for long.
There seems to be nothing serious about this.
I hope this answered your question, If you have more queries I am happy to answer you. Regards.
Dr.Muhammad Ahmad
