What Causes Swelling And Burning Sensation Behind The Knee?

Today when I was sitting, it felt like something stung me behind the knee. I looked, but didn t see anything. Now it is a little swollen and I feel a slight burning sensation. What is also strange is earlier today I had a stinging feeling on one of my fingers. It looks normal, but feels a little numb and it hurts if I press on the spot.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your short and specific history about a questionable sting on finger and at the back of knee wherein you got little swelling and slight burning sensation.
Sine there is similar history at 2 spots the chances are more for an insect bite.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult your Doctor asap as you do not know the exact cause and your Doctor may ascertain the exact cause and get you the proper diagnosis as well as proper management as per the cause found.
Another possibility can also be seen for.
Till then you can take an antihistamine and oral steroid if you have at home.
Do not fondle the area.
Give rest to the knee.
Watch for the development of color changes and other things at the sites. And tell your Doctor about hte serial progress.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
