General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the pain may be due to a spur. This can cause severe pain in the ankle and may also be associated with swelling and difficulty walking.

A spur refers to inflammation of an area in the foot called the plantar fascia. Treatment normally involves rest, good footwear and heel pads, pain medication and exercises.
There are certain exercises that are recommended, they are demonstrated online (search for exercises for plantar fasciitis).

This diagnosis should be confirmed by a visit to your doctor. He or she would examine the ankle and may also suggest an X ray to take a look.

I hope this helps
