What Causes Swelling And Inflammation Around An Injection Site?
Hi, i was just reading the side effects of the shingles vaccine. I received the vaccination at the Pharmacy on Thu 5/18. It s been a little over 48 hours and I still have redness, swollen and hot at the injection site. Is this normal? How long should it continue?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Swelling and inflammation around the injection site is due to skin reaction. Kindly do the following to overcome the same. 1. Cleanse the area with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon twice daily. 2. Apply ice pack for about 10 to 15 minutes twice daily. 3. Take anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen twice daily after food. 4. Take antihistaminic medication Tablet. Levocetirizine once a day. 5. Keep the site clean and dry and allow it to heal naturally. Gradually such symptoms should subside and you should be back to normal. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
