What Causes Swelling And Inflammation In The Gums?

My daughter-in-law is suffering from swollen, inflamed gums (upper) that are hanging over her teeth. Her face and neck are swollen also.. She has a low grade fever and is very tired. She works at a pre-school with 3 year olds. Dentist and endodontist have ruled out any tooth situation. Dentist said a tooth nerve was infected but endo couldn t find anything. He suggested maybe an allergy?

Swelling and inflammation in gums is due to presence of infection that is leading to formation of periodontal abscess which is giving these systemic symptoms. I would suggest you to visit Periodontist once and get it examine properly. Go for root cleaning, curettage and root planing as you have debris inside gums. Use antimicrobial mouthwash. You should take proper course of antibiotics to subside infection. Do warm saline or betadine gargles to prevent bacterial build up. Go for flap repositioning if its is advised by periodontist.

Best Wishes.
