What Causes Swelling And Numbness In The Jaw While Suffering From Tooth Infection?
I have an abscessed tooth and it has been infected for a while now. Last week though it began swelling and the pain in my jaw was excruciating. I was taking a lot of ibuprofren frequently and icing it just to male it bearable. It is my bottom tooth 4th from my back molar. Yesterday I woke up and instantly I noticed all the pain was gone, my mouth was still swollen and that part of my lip and jaw in that area was completely numb. What is causing the numbness and how concerned should I be?
As per your complain it seems that you have a Dental Abscess and it is presently active and due to pus formation there has been nerve compression in the area of infection and the area supplied by the nerve branch has become numb.. Consult an Oral Physician or an Endodontist and get evaluated.. He can advise you an x-ray for diagnosis.. You can be advised Root Canal Treatment if tooth is in condition to be saved.. In case if there is Gross decay extraction can be advised.. As of now continue doing cool compresses..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
