What Causes Swelling And Numbness On The Forearm Post A Self Injury?

Three days ago I cut the side of my forearm. My arm started to slowly grow numb the next day and more so in the past 2 days. The feeling isn t tingly, but more like it s swollen. I didn t think the cut was too deep. I was able to stop the bleeding and have been changing the bandage daily. It s almost healed. However, is there a possibility that I cut a nerve on the side of my arm that is causing the numbness sensation?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are small nerves that run through the skin and it is possible that there may minor injury to one or more of these nerves but this is likely to improve.

Only in very severe trauma, is the nerve damage expected to be permanent.

It may take a few weeks for the arm to feel normal.

Swelling is also an expected response of the immune system. This would also resolve on its own, it should only take a few days.

I hope this helps
