What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Big Toe After Injury?

Over 2 weeks ago, I hit the top of my bare big toe on a hard surface. There was an instant pain, but I thought I had just stubbed it. It still hurts if any pressure is put on it. There is still a swelling around the area that was hit, bottom of the toenail and the cuticle. I have never had a stubbed toe with pain this long.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The swelling is related to the injury. I suggest using anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen. I also suggest using cold compresses at the toe area.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
