What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Forefinger?

My husband s forefinger is very swollen around the nail and painful. We suspect paronychia (thanks to the internet) and are wondering what we can do for a home treatment until he can see a doctor. It s been there for about two weeks...he works in a prison so something bacterial would make sense.

A paronychia is an infection close to or involving the nailed. The best you can do is immerse the finger in hot water, careful not to burn skin, 4 times a day for 20 minutes at a time.
The best treatment is to have the physician lance and drain the area. You should feel immediate relief. It is a simple office procedure performed by any physician.
I hope you feel better
