What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Joint After Taking Amoxicillin?

My daughter is 17 and has recently been prescribed amoxicillin for Strep, that was diagnosed after she had severe joint pain and joint swelling. She has finished her antibiotics and now has had boating and green stools (with diarrhea) for the past three days. I am taking her to the doctor tomorrow, but I am looking online tonight for some insight.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your daughter seem to be related to side effects of Amoxicillin.

It can be an allergic reaction.

I recommend to stop the medication and give her antihistamines such as Levocetirizine.

I also recommend giving her probiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
