General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Swelling in the left index finger with throbbing and soreness is usually due to pulp abscess or paronychia.

Either of the problems, the treatment is the same for such a condition. Local Savlon and Band-aid would not help much. You need to take antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications.
Elevate the affected hand above the heart level in laying down position to get the maximum benefit.
Consult your doctor for a proper clinical evaluation and get examined by a general surgeon and get any additional treatment and surgery like incision and drainage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
