What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Neck And Gums?
about 10 years ago i drank the radiation liquid for my thyroid (hyperthyroidism).since then, i have had much difficulty in regulating my levels through the use of synthroid.recently i have been extremely fatigued and experiencing alot of pain and swelling in the neck and both sides of the thyroid gland as well as in my mouth in my gums, sometimes with hoarsness or even loss of my voice.what are the signs/symptoms of goiter or cancer of the thyroid and is it possible to get that after having drank the radiation?
Hello, I have carefully gone through your query and understood your concern. The symptoms you prescribed may be due to under active thyroid. If you haven't checked the TSH level lately i suggest to do it. Regarding the radioactive iodine and the risk of cancer i would say that radioactive iodine accelerates the development of cancer when it is present at the moment when you take the Radioiodine. That is why a biopsy is done before taking it ( if there is any cold nodule present). If the TSH results within the normal ranges, than i would suggest to do an ultrasound of the thyroid gland to see it dimensions and structure. Hope i was somewhat helpful and feel free to contact me if you have further queries. Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
