Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was hospitalized a few weeks ago. The IV that they placed in my right wrist was leaking into my wrist. My wrist is swollen and hurts consistantly. I cannot move it hardly without severe pain. I do have arthritis in it but it had not bothered me before this. Any suggestions?
If there is IV leak happened during the cannulation or with procedure, then usually it will take one day or so to get subsided.
It will not pain so much that you would say but since you say you have arthritis also it might be because of that also or it can be carpal tunnel syndrome which has happened due to an infection of the wrist and there is a swelling.
So, we need to examine you for the same and find out what exactly happening in your wrist. If it is arthritis or infection, then anti-inflammatory or antibiotics will helps to subside the infection within 5 to 7 days. Hope this info helps you to sort out your problems.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
