What Causes Swelling And Pain In Upper Abdomen Upon Coughing?

I have recently had treatments for lung cancer including radiation on the left and right lungs. Although my pet scans have noticed no cancer in my body I am experiencing pain in my upper left abdomen especially when I cough, and I seem to have some swelling in that area as well.

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it can be due to stomach distension and may be side effect of Chemotherapy or radiotherapy however for reassurance ultrasound abdomen may be needed.

Possibility of muscle spasm due to coughing does exist and may resolve spontaneously with anti tussives as well as with muscle relaxants and warm compresses.

Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful with antacids like omerperazole.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
